Hi, I'm
Simon Patterson
Freelance Motorsport Journalist

About Me
I’m a freelance motorsport journalist who spends half the year traveling Europe with my team boss wife Maddi in our self converted Mercedes Sprinter van and the other half traveling internationally covering the MotoGP world championship.
I write for a number of international clients, including The Race in the United Kingdom, Speedweek in Germany, and Motociclismo in Portugal, as well as appearing frequently as an expert for the BBC World Service and Al Jazeera English.

I’m fortunate that my primary focus on motorsport presents me with the opportunity for travel and adventure in between races. I drive extensively while in Europe to seek out new experiences from food and scenery to history and sports.
I’m an all round sports fan and history buff, with good food, mountain biking and road cycling, watersports, hiking and historic sites of interest all things that will make me take a detour.
On the rare occasions that we're not on the road, we're at home in Ireland planning our next trip and hanging out with my wife's pet donkey Ginger.

Racing for Ukraine
In July 2014, my friend Hannah died when her flight was shot down by Russian forces over Eastern Ukraine. Since then, I've been passionate about helping the wonderful Ukrainian people in resisting Russian invasion and, thanks to the generosity of the MotoGP paddock, we've been able to raise nearly €75,000 for medical aid since the start of the fullscale invasion in March 2022.
